Rehearsals

Wellington Young Voices children’s choir is divided into two choirs: un-auditioned Korimako (for 6-10 year olds) and auditioned Kōkako (for 10 year olds and up).

Led by highly experienced choral conductors and tutors, the aim of WYV is to nurture the young voices of the Wellington region by providing opportunities for children to develop their vocal, choral and musicianship skills within a supportive environment.

WYV presents regular concerts throughout the year. Choir repertoire ranges from contemporary classical to world music and musical theatre, including songs from Aotearoa New Zealand, so there is always something to suit all ages and tastes!

Rehearsals:

Rehearsals are held every Monday during term time, 4:00pm, at Queen Margaret College, 53 Hobson Street, Thorndon, Wellington.

Members of our team will be at the venue from 3:45pm to greet you in the atrium, next to the auditorium and assembly hall. Please collect a name tag for your child at the desk on arrival. New members will be buddied up with existing choir members to help make them feel at ease.

Parents and their families are always very welcome to stay for the entire session and sit in the atrium or at the back of either rehearsal space. Our Choir Assistant can help with directions.

Korimako - Auditorium (adjacent to the Atrium)

Kōkako - Music room (adjacent to the Atrium)

During the first few weeks your child will be given a choir music folder and a WYV polo shirt, which are theirs to keep.

Schedule:

4:00pm - 5:30pm: Korimako rehearses with Joanne Hodgson (Associate Director) and Rosemary Russell (Assistant Director). Rehearsals are held in the Auditorium. There will be a small break during this time.
