Rehearsals

Wellington Young Voices children’s choir offers two groups: unauditioned Korimako (6-12 years old), and auditioned Kōkako (10 years and older).

Led by highly experienced choral conductors and tutors, the aim of WYV is to nurture the young voices of the Wellington region by providing opportunities for children to develop their vocal, choral and musicianship skills within a supportive environment.

WYV presents regular concerts throughout the year. Choir repertoire ranges from classical to world music and musical theatre, including songs from Aotearoa New Zealand, so there is always something to suit all ages and tastes!

Rehearsals:

Rehearsals are held every Monday during term time at Queen Margaret College, 53 Hobson Street, Thorndon, Wellington.

  • KORIMAKO: 6-12 years old, unauditioned, Mondays 4:00 pm – 5:00 pm

This all-comers group, led by Associate Music Director Joanne Hodgson, will focus on developing the natural singing voice and basic musicianship skills through songs and music games. Korimako sings its own repertoire and also combines with Kōkako for performances.

  • KŌKAKO: 10 years or older, auditioned, Mondays 4:00 pm – 6:00 pm

This is our premier auditioned choir. Kōkako learns more challenging repertoire and performs both together with Korimako and as a standalone choir. From time to time we also undertake collaborations and engagements with other Wellington choirs.

Please note that WYV cannot take responsibility for unsupervised children onsite before and after official rehearsal hours — much as we love them!
