Wellington Young Voices is an exciting choral venture for 8 to 14 year olds —
sweet-singing fledgling birds, or pirere rōreka — led by expert choral conductors and tutors. We aim to nurture the young voices of the Wellington region by providing weekly opportunities for children to
develop their vocal, choral and musicianship skills.

Our goals are to:
encourage and educate children aged 8 to 14 in musicianship, vocal production, singing and performance
foster a life-long love of singing and music in general
provide an environment in which to develop confidence, self-discipline, team work and commitment
perform for the benefit of the public and to enrich our wider community
regularly present high quality repertoire
Weekly rehearsals
Rehearsals are on Mondays 4pm - 6pm at St Andrews on The Terrace, Wellington. Our first rehearsal for term one is on Monday 11 February. Download the 2019 rehearsal schedule here for a full list of term dates. Note that this will be added to in more detail, and may well change throughout the year as opportunities arise for WYV singers to collaborate with other organisations. You will be given plenty of notice of any changes or additions. Our rehearsals are all in term time unless otherwise specified.
Repertoire
Our music selection includes a range of songs from contemporary classical to world music and musical theatre, including repertoire from Aotearoa New Zealand. Choir members will have printed music scores for some songs, but it is not essential that the singers know how to read music prior to joining the choir.
Concerts and performances
There will be a number of occasions during the year when we will share our music with families and perform to wider audiences in a variety of settings. Singers and their families will be given adequate notice of performance dates and and we expect WYV choir members to commit to taking part in performances where possible.
Wellington Young Voices is an Incorporated Society chaired by Judy McKoy, a teacher and arts administrator, and singer with Nota Bene chamber choir.
